Small Wi-Fi nodes built on the ESP8266 ESP-12E are installed as clients in each room. They detect LPG gas, motion, the state of lights and doors, and control an electronic door lock and the lights in each room. Nodes talk to a server node over the local network using UDP, which keeps the traffic fast and light; the server talks to the cloud (Firebase) over TCP for reliable delivery, so an Android app can monitor and control the house over the internet or, offline, over the local network.
